Congressman Sam Johnson from Texas Visits Silverado Hospice in Dallas to Discuss the Vital Role Hospice Plays in Communities Across the United States
DALLAS, Texas - Nov. 1, 2013 – Just in time for Hospice Awareness Month -- which kicks off today -- Congressman Sam Johnson, representing the Third District of Texas, yesterday visited Silverado Hospice in Dallas for a special tour and presentation. As part of Silverado's ongoing effort to urge congress to protect access to compassionate and high-quality end-of-life care, the Silverado team outlined the many benefits of hospice and how it positively impacts lives. During the meeting, Congressman Johnson presented Silverado with a framed flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol, in honor of the company's efforts around hospice care.
"It is so important that we spread the message about hospice to our government officials not only to keep the Medicare benefit intact, but to further our mission of better understanding, and how hospice is so important for everyone’s care at the end of life," shares Silverado Hospice Administrator Monica Lewis-McCommas.
The visit follows efforts earlier this year during which Silverado leaders joined fellow advocates in Washington, D.C. as part of the Hospice Action Network’s (HAN) Capitol Hill Day 2013. During the meeting, the group urged Congress to support the bipartisan HELP Hospice Act (S. 722/H.R. 3506). To learn more about HELP, visit hospiceactionnetwork.org.
