District Director for the Office of Representative Michael Burgess Meets with Silverado Hospice to Discuss the Role of Hospice
DALLAS, TX – Erik With, District Director for the Office of Representative Mike Burgess, met with Silverado Hospice Dallas Administrator Monica Lewis-McCommas to discuss the vital role of hospice. As part of Silverado's ongoing effort to urge congress to protect access to compassionate and high-quality end-of-life care, the Silverado team outlined the many benefits of hospice and how it positively impacts lives.
With sat down with Silverado Hospice Administrator Monica Lewis-McCommas to discuss the HELP Hospice Act, the PART D Medicare issue — which would require hospice providers to paying for all analgesics, even if unrelated to the diagnosis — as well as the concern that Medicare Advantage plans may need in-network contracts in the near future, making it more difficult for families to receive the benefits hospice provides at the end of life.
"It's important that we spread the message about hospice to our government officials not only to keep the Medicare benefit intact, but to further our mission to positively impacts lives at the end of life," shares Lewis-McCommas.
After the visit, With shared that the health legislation discussed during the meeting would be reviewed. The visit follows efforts last year during which Silverado leaders joined fellow advocates in Washington, D.C. as part of the Hospice Action Network’s (HAN) Capitol Hill Day.
