SeniorServ Honors Senior Care Heroes and raises $70,000 for Seniors in Need
On Saturday, October 18th, nearly 500 guests attended the 2014 Senior Care Hero Awards Gala at the Grove of Anaheim to recognize heroes from the senior care industry. A total of 17 recipients across categories such as outstanding caregiver, physician, nurse, and social worker, were recognized for their selfless acts of care and compassion while serving one of the most vulnerable populations, frail older adults. Among those honored was Jim McAleer, CEO of Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Presenting the award was Michelle Egerer, Senior Vice President of Operations at Silverado and Chair of the Board of Directors for Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County. “It was my distinct privilege to recognize Jim McAleer for his heart for service. His passionate commitment and dedication to every family, every person impacted by Alzheimer’s devastating disease certainly makes him a senior hero,” said Michelle Egerer,
Master of Ceremonies Guest Host, Henry DiCarlo of KTLA who shared his own story of caring for an aging loved one said, “It was an honor to be part of such an exciting and uplifting event. It was great to see the unsung heroes among us get their recognition.”
One of the evening’s highlights was Barbara Watz’s performance of her original song titled You, You are Wonderful, written just for supporters of SeniorServ. Barbara, a SeniorServ Meals on Wheels recipient, who began performing at the age of nine, lost her leg in a car accident as an older adult. Barbara sang “I am so grateful to you. I am so glad I could write this special song just for you.”
Event chair, Randy Platt, Senior VP of Operations, H of Silverado, shared this, “Caregivers often go about their day without concern for themselves, giving selflessly through commitment, honor and most often love! We recognized more than just caregivers--we honored ALL those who dedicate their lives to care for and support our Seniors!
“Through this special event, we are delighted to be able to recognize the unsung heroes of senior care and help meet the growing needs of older adults in Orange County,” said Holly Hagler, President and CEO of SeniorServ.
