As we welcome the New Year, we’re taking a brief look back at some of the most memorable, life-enriching Silverado moments of 2013. Although there are dozens more, here are a few highlights:

Silverado ranks as a top workplace: This is the sixth consecutive year the Orange County Register’s Top Workplaces award has been won by Silverado. In addition, Dallas teams were recognized by The Dallas Morning News and Workplace Dynamics as a Top Workplace. 

Dallas Mavericks moment: With assistance from the family of a former patient, Silverado Hospice Dallas helped a son experience a final memory with his father — floor seats at a Dallas Maverick’s basketball game.

Hospice Capitol Hill day: Silverado associates, led by Michelle Pickering, Vice President of Hospice, and Monica Lewis-McCommas, Administrator of Hospice Dallas, spent a day on Capitol Hill in support of the HELP Hospice Act.

Residents throwing out the first pitch: Silverado Scottsdale resident Don Rodrigues and Silverado Sugar Land’s Tony Medina both experienced the thrill of throwing the first pitch for their favorite home teams.

Smart Business Magazine feature: Loren Shook, Silverado president, chairman and CEO, was featured on the cover of Smart Business Magazine, Orange County.

Calabasas vow renewals: Silverado Calabasas held a vow renewal ceremony to celebrate the love of our residents, associates and their families. Event guests included Calabasas Mayor Fred Gaines and his wife.

Medical Directors Conference: Silverado Medical experts from across the nation gathered at the Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health for the annual Silverado Medical Director Conference.

Guzman golf sponsorship: Silverado sponsored the annual Guzman 23 Foundation Charity Golf Tournament, and four Silverado residents participated in the event.

Utah’s top skilled nursing provider: U.S. News and World Report recognized Silverado Aspen Park as Utah’s top nursing provider for its world-class staff and clinical care.

ALFA Hero Award: Assisted Living Federation of America honored Leo Aguilar, Director of Culinary Services at Silverado San Juan Capistrano, with the ALFA 2013 Hero Award for his commitment to senior care.

ALFA “Best of the Best” Risk Program: Frank Russo, Silverado Vice President of Risk Management, was honored with the ALFA 2013 “Best of the Best” Risk Program Award.

Firefighter Rufus Smith experiences one more shift: Silverado Hospice patient Rufus Smith, a 21-year veteran firefighter, was granted “one more shift” at the Houston Fire Department (HFD).

Congress visits: Congressman Sam Johnson, Congresswoman Susan Davis and Congressman
Pete Olsen experience Silverado’s life-enriching care during special presentations at hospice offices and memory care communities.

WWII Vet honored in Utah: At a Utah Jazz basketball game, 90-year-old Silverado Hospice patient Staff Sgt. Robert Robinson was honored by tens of thousands of fans for his heroic efforts serving in World War ll.
