Looking Back on 2014: A Letter From Silverado CEO Loren Shook
It's All About the Care
We at Silverado are privileged to have served a record number of people and their families in 2014, thanks to three new memory care communities, two new hospice offices and growth within our existing locations. Over the past year, I have had an opportunity to speak with many new and current Silverado families, and oftentimes the most touching stories I hear include a member of our caregiving team. Our caregivers include all staff that connects with our residents, clients and patients — from caregivers, licensed nurses and social workers, to the engagement team, housekeeping and maintenance staff.
Silverado caregivers have a special way of connecting with residents, patients, clients and their families. Our passionate and dedicated caregivers help bring the Silverado experience to life — one moment at a time.
Across the company we have one of the best retention rates in the industry, resulting in a proficient staff of associates that uses 18 years of organizational knowledge to deliver a consistently remarkable experience. And yet, at Silverado we are always looking for ways to go beyond the standard. That’s why we’re taking several steps in 2015 to help our caregivers remain some of the best in the healthcare industry.
In 2015, look for:
• A new dementia certification program — developed by Silverado’s dementia experts — that requires five times more training than typical industry certification programs
• An enhanced caregiver training curriculum that combines one-on-one clinical instruction with an innovative e-learning platform
• New leadership workshops that will help us to continue to promote from within, inspiring our caregivers themselves, in addition to other staff, to grow as leaders and develop into future Silverado leaders
• Consistent, quality care maintained by hiring additional full-time caregivers across the company at a time when most companies in our industry are cutting back full-time positions
Caring for people is at the core of what we do, so it’s important to us — and to me personally — that the care we provide is several steps ahead of what is considered standard. The significant investment we’re making in these new and enhanced programs ultimately allows us to provide even better world-class care to those we serve.
Providing this level of programing also complements our existing associate benefits (such as the ability to bring children and pets to work), giving our associates more reasons to enjoy the life-enriching work they do at Silverado.
We look forward to sharing more about these efforts with you as the year unfolds. It is an honor to serve you as President and CEO. God bless, and best wishes for a fulfilling 2015.
