Partnership with We Honor Veterans
Those who defend our country as a member of the armed forces are deserving of special honor and praise for their dedication. Nowhere is this truer than at the end of a veteran’s life, so Silverado Hospice is proud to partner with We Honor Veterans to help provide care that honors the individual and their service.
We Honor Veterans is a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), run in collaboration with the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA). The pioneering We Honor Veterans program is focused on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. Silverado Hospice has always had a strong commitment to the compassionate care of veterans, and partnering with We Honor Veterans provides an added degree of resources to provide next-level hospice care to them.
We Honor Veterans works with partners to help provide for the unique hospice needs veterans often have. This can include:
- Care and support specific to traumas and wars served in
- Care focused on population (homelessness, substance abuse, PTSD and others)
By following We Honor Veterans' detailed best practices, Silverado Hospice branches become better equipped to serve veterans. In return, Silverado receives a ranking within a unique tiered system of from one to four stars to let veterans and their families know that their hospice care will be respectful to the patient and their service.
While some Silverado Hospice offices have existing partnerships with the program, the next several months will see each one progress, earning more stars until reaching the goal of a four-star certification for each location.
