Azusa Is Becoming a Dementia Friendly City!

The City of Azusa, in partnership with Silverado Sierra Vista Memory Care Community, signed a resolution in October 2016 to become a Dementia Friendly Community, the first in Los Angeles County. The team at Silverado Sierra Vista assembled a task force of community leaders earlier this year to set a vision for a Dementia Friendly Azusa, prompting the greater community and the Azusa City Council to take action.

The mission of the task force is to create a community that is informed and respectful of people living with dementia, and has supportive features across all community groups to foster quality of life for everyone. The community groups include government, fire and police departments, chamber of commerce and local businesses, healthcare providers, educational organizations, nonprofits, the faith-based community, and local citizens.

Silverado will continue to support the task force by providing education programs, expert guidance, training resources, and by supporting new ideas. This initiative is part of Silverado's commitment to change the way in which the world cares for and perceives people with cognitive decline.
