Silverado Newport Mesa Hosts Spaghetti Cook Off
Raising More Than $2,000 for Alzheimer’s Association
Local “spaghetti chefs” put their homemade sauce to the test at the inaugural Spaghetti Cook Off Challenge at Silverado Memory Care Community in Costa Mesa on Wednesday, May 21. Eight sauces were entered into the competition and more than 150 people attended the event — enjoying a live jazz band, healthy hors d’oeuvres, wine, traditional and gluten-free pasta, and tastes of the many sauces.
While the chef who prepared the winning sauce took home a prize, the real win went to the fight against Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. The event raised more than $2,000 for the Orange County Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“We are so thankful for the support of Silverado Newport Mesa, our contestants and all of our guest judges for donating their time at this fundraiser,” shares Patty Mouton, Vice President, Outreach and Advocacy for the OC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. “Every dollar raised furthers our mission to provide and enhance care and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.”
Based on the Daniel Plan principles, Patty’s Irish Girl Sauce, prepared by Mouton herself, was the recipe to beat. "The Daniel Plan" is a healthy lifestyle program based on the five essential principles of faith, food, fitness, focus and friends.
