Award-winning Assisted Living Administrator to Open New Silverado Memory Care Community in Bee Cave, Texas

Administrator Rose Vera helps shape public policy through hearings with State of Texas

The Texas Assisted Living Association (TALA) this month recognized Silverado Administrator Rose Vera with the TALA Advocate Award for her efforts to testify before Texas legislators regarding vital issues facing an aging population – such as aging in place in assisted livings and the informal resolution process for Texas assisted livings.

During the hearings, Vera outlined for legislators both the quality of life benefits experienced by individuals who age in place, and the need for assisted living communities to be given a fair chance to dispute survey findings.  In addition, she worked with TALA to encourage the state to name the first Tuesday in March of every year as Assisted Living Awareness Day in Texas.

“When a volunteer like Rose steps in and speaks so passionately about what we do it makes a big difference,” shares TALA Executive Director Gail A. Harmon. “Silverado not only makes a difference for their residents, they make a difference for the community overall.”

The effectiveness of Vera’s testimonies prompted TALA to give this special honor for the first time in the organizations 18-year history.

“We are extremely proud of Rose – the leadership she has demonstrated ultimately will enhance the quality of life for countless people,” shares Silverado President, CEO and Chairman Loren Shook. “When Silverado was founded, we set out to change the way the world cares for those with memory impairments, and Rose has been an instrumental part of moving that vision forward in her community.”

The honor was awarded as Vera leads the opening of a new Silverado memory care community in Bee Cave, set to open summer 2014. The state-of-the-art community will focus exclusively on enriching the lives of memory-impaired residents, their families and its associates. Silverado’s distinctive model combines the social benefits of a community lifestyle with the support of world-class care – including around-the-clock licensed nurses and industry-leading medical directors.

Vera comes to Silverado with 15 years of experience in assisted living and memory care. She is a Licensed Vocational Nurse by training and holds a bachelor’s degree in health care administration, as well as a master’s degree in business from Baylor University.
