New Support Group for Daughters
A few weeks ago, David Ballard mentioned to his wife Betsy Ballard, “Silverado has a support group for Thriving Spouses. They ought to have a group for daughters.” Betsy is the daughter of Margaret Benton, a resident at Silverado Valley Ranch.
From this thought, a new support group has sprung. On the fourth Tuesday of every month from 12 to 1 pm, daughters are invited to come share and hear about other women who are coping with the same struggles they encounter while caring for their parent with dementia.
Our Director of Resident and Family Services, Sharyn Simpson, LCSW, is leading the group. The first successful group meeting was held on April 22, 2014. After the meeting, Betsy said, “It was good. You feel like you are not alone. There are a lot of shared experiences and stresses.”
David has referred to the group as Distressed Daughters. Sharyn's goal is to help them identify these areas of stress and relieve some of these burdens they carry. Sharyn adds, "There is a lot of guilt carried by daughters. My hope is to help brighten these loving daughters' spirits."
All daughters (daughter-in-laws too) are encouraged to attend. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
