"Our mom has recently been diagnosed with dementia. We have been trying to ignore her condition and keep caring for her at home. Between my sister and brother, we have done our best to provide a loving, safe, and healthy environment-- but we were failing. We were failing because we had let our own families (children, spouses) suffer; because despite our best intentions, we couldn't keep mom engaged; and because 24/7 monitoring was simply impossible.
Then we found Silverado Memory Care in Plano. It is a new, attractive facility conveniently located near Coit and George Bush. We first went, unannounced, just to poke around. We were met by Fabrice, and other loving, caring staff who took the time to show us around. The entry is secured and opens up into a traditional 'Main Street', complete with soda fountain shop, theater, and more.
My mom loved it and we moved in less than a week later! I've now met the Director, nurses, cleaning staff, therapists, and dietitian, and can honestly say that they have been 100% cheerful and helpful. They are not perfect - but when issues arise, they have been quick to respond and resolve.
Most importantly, they seem sincere in their love for my mom and the dozens of similar elderly patients in their care. As you can imagine, it can be a challenging environment, doing mini-concerts, cake decorating, movies, meals, medicines, and therapy among a group that is often difficult to engage, but they seem to do it with a smile on their face and kind voices.
Of course, all of us would have preferred to avoid dementia- mom especially! But dementia affects a lot of us, and has a tremendous impact on both care givers and recipients. Creating a loving, safe, engaging environment with 24/7 monitoring inside our home became untenable. Maybe you are getting to the same point.
We are thrilled that we found Silverado. It has been a huge blessing in ALL of our lives. Perhaps it could be for you as well."
