Memory-Impaired Put Brush to Canvas to Support Others with Alzheimer’s

Location : Brookfield

Wine & Watercolors Art Auction Welcomes Public

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a group of artists is speaking volumes. They reside at Silverado Brookfield and Silverado Oak Village memory-care communities, where they take art classes and soon will auction their work to benefit others with dementia.

Silverado Brookfield Memory Care Community will host the upcoming Wine & Watercolors Mixer and Silent Auction featuring about 25 paintings by residents from the two Silverado communities. Silverado-Oak Village is located in Menomonee Falls, WI. The event is open to the public, expected to draw more than 100 participants and raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin.

The event represents a practice central to Silverado’s care, which is enriching lives of those with dementia by helping them to experience the fulfillment of achievement, giving and engagement.

“The  auction and art programs bring joy and a feeling of connection to our residents, as well as showing that people with dementia can lead meaningful lives,” says Silverado-Brookfield Administrator Pam Preston. “This is a wonderful celebration of their abilities, not limitations. It helps create community awareness and hope, and of course benefits a cause that is close to all of our hearts.”

Wine & Watercolors Mixer and Silent auction will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 at Silverado Brookfield at 1105 Davidson Road Brookfield, WI 53045; 262-649-2285; proceeds to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Wisconsin. The event is free, open to the public and a variety of gourmet hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served. RSVPs to 262-649-2285 are requested and attire is business casual.

Similar auctions at other Silverado memory care communities have generated thousands of dollars for the cause. Individual works, many of which now hang in offices and homes, have sold for more than $200. The classes and auctions however, represent far more than just the works produced and sold.
