Silverado Respite Care Guest Hosts Book Signing
Raymond Pole wrote a book about his childhood experiences being evacuated from London during World War II. See what happened when Silverado arranged a signing event to celebrate his work.
Long before he was a guest spending time in respite care with Silverado Belmont Hills’ Flex Care program, Raymond Pole’s life was one for the story books. As a matter of fact, he wrote The Evacuee Who Became a St. Ivian about his personal experiences during World War II, as an eleven year-old being evacuated from London in 1939.
Though Raymond now lives with Alzheimer’s, his book is a point of pride in his life. Knowing this, the team at Silverado arranged to celebrate his accomplishment with a book signing event at the community. The video above shows highlights from this signing and the delight it brought about in Raymond.
This sort of event is the perfect example of our philosophy at work -- dignity and a fulfilling existence come from celebrating abilities, not limitations. The sheer joy on the faces of Raymond and his wife are the moments that inspire what we do at Silverado.
