The nighttime half of Silverado’s 24-Hour Brain Health Program

Memory Air™: Supporting the Brain While Residents Sleep

Brain health doesn’t stop at night. Silverado is the first memory care provider in the United States to include Memory Air as part of its model of care, bringing gentle, science-backed sensory stimulation to residents in the early-stage Nexus Brain Health Program, during the hours when the brain does some of its most important work.

Why sleep matters

Sleep Is When the Brain Goes to Work

During deep sleep, the brain organizes and stores memories, strengthens important connections, clears natural waste, and recharges for the day ahead. Quality sleep supports the brain’s natural ability to stay healthy and adaptable.

That is why Silverado’s approach to brain health doesn’t end when the day’s activities do. Memory Air extends purposeful brain support into the night.

How Memory Air works

Gentle Stimulation Through the Sense of Smell

Memory Air releases a changing sequence of pleasant, natural aromas throughout the night, up to 40 distinct scents, delivered quietly while residents sleep. By gently engaging the brain’s connection to smell overnight, Memory Air provides sensory enrichment during hours that traditional memory care has always left untouched.

  1. Residents sleep
The automated system requires no effort or complex routine.
  2. Natural scents change
Up to 40 gentle aromas are delivered quietly through the night.
  3. The brain is engaged
Smell connects directly with brain regions involved in memory, thinking, and emotions.

Proven through clinical research

A Direct Connection to Learning and Memory

The sense of smell has a direct connection to the hippocampus, the brain’s center for learning and memory, and one of the first areas affected by dementia.

Loss of smell can be an early sign of dementia, Parkinson’s, and other neurological conditions. Stimulating the olfactory system supports exactly the parts of the brain that cognitive decline affects first.

226%

Better Memory Performance

In a 2023 randomized controlled trial at the University of California, Irvine, adults ages 60 to 85 who received changing scents during sleep showed memory performance 226% better than the control group, measured by a standard word-list recall test. It is the largest memory improvement ever reported in scientific literature for a non-drug intervention.

Nexus by day. Memory Air by night.

One Program, Twenty-Four Hours

By day, residents in Silverado’s Nexus program engage in purposeful activity built on five pillars: physical exercise, stress reduction, cognitive engagement, purposeful social activities, and support groups. By night, Memory Air continues that support while they sleep.

Together, they form a continuous 24-hour approach to brain health that no other memory care provider currently offers as part of its everyday model of care.
