Experiencing the Virtual Dementia Tour
A board member of Senior Services of Alexandria shares her Virtual Dementia Tour experience
Kitty Porterfield, a board member of Senior Services of Alexandria, recently had the pleasure of taking our Virtual Dementia Tour. She is a neighbor of Silverado Alexandria and a beloved member of the community.
She shared her experience with the Alexandria Gazette, stating how eye-opening it was for her and encouraging others to take it as well.
Kitty goes into detail about her experience, from the various devices she put on to simulate dementia to the disorienting sensations she felt while attempting to perform simple, everyday tasks. She points out that the tour has given her "a new understanding of those for whom these distractions are constant." She concludes her letter with a message: "We who live in an able-bodied world have little idea of the road blocks others face. This tour is a good reminder."
